The Red Beach Squash Club

Established in 1982, just ahead of the official opening of the new surf lifesaving clubrooms and its two dedicated squash courts in 1983, Red Beach Squash Club quickly became a local sensation. Its popularity soared, leading to a period in the 1980s where membership reached its maximum of 250 playing members.

Today, our vibrant club boasts around 100 members, comprising a diverse mix of competitive seniors, intermediates, enthusiastic juniors, off-peak players, and valued associates, all contributing to our thriving community.

Interclub:

Red Beach Squash Club proudly competes in regular interclub competitions organized by Squash Auckland, challenging teams from across the region. These competitions run throughout the year:

  • Autumn: Single Round
  • Winter: Double Round
  • Spring: Single Round

All squash players are graded through a computerised system, ensuring interclub teams are reasonably and fairly matched for competitive play.

Senior Interclub:

  • Held on Monday and Tuesday nights.
  • Our teams often combine with players from Silverdale Squash for these competitions.

Masters Squash (Over 40s):

  • Masters squash is a strong and active category in Auckland, and Red Beach teams consistently perform well.
  • Unlike the senior format, each Masters division operates like a "travelling circus," with clubs taking turns to host the entire division each week.
  • Masters interclub is held on Wednesday nights.

Senior Club Night:

Senior club night is on Thursday 6.00pm - 8.00pm.  This is a very informal evening with players typically getting in a couple of games with each opponent, between beers.

Junior Squash:

  • Every Friday, 4:30 PM - 6:45 PM
  • A super relaxed and social squash session, perfect for all skill levels. It's a great way to have fun, learn, and make friends on court!
  • The bar is open for parents to relax and socialize while the juniors are playing.

Auckland Squash Junior Interclub:

  •  Juniors are highly encouraged to participate in this very successful competition.
  • Matches take place on Sunday mornings during school term time.

Junior Tournaments:

  • All our juniors have the exciting opportunity to choose and compete in various club tournaments held throughout Auckland.

Tournaments:

Squash clubs around the country hold tournaments every week of the year and registered players can enter any of them, provided they meet the grading requirements of the particular tournament.

The Red Beach club holds two tournaments; a summer tournament in February and a  masters tournament in  October/November time frame. Additionally the club holds its annual club championships each  September.  A number of Red Beach players also take group away-trips to tournaments in the Bay of Plenty, Waikato and Northland, mixing the social and competitive aspects of the sport.

For the more serious players, there are the Auckland Championships and the Interdistrict teams event (now known as the National SuperChamps). The Auckland Championships are for individuals, while the SuperChamps are the most challenging competition on the squash calendar.

The SuperChamps are a graded competition for club teams of 7 (with 5 playing in each round), playing first for the provincial title, with the winner advancing to the national competition. It is an event that suits larger clubs due to the number of players of the same standard required to form a team. However, Red Beach has been one of the stronger small clubs in the country performing in this competition in recent years.

Social Club:

Squash is a very social part of the Red Beach club. You can find a fair few members in the lounge on a Friday evening, when both the bar and kitchen are open, and if there’s a big match on it’ll be televised on the big screen.

    • Bar: 12:00 PM (noon) - 11:00 PM
  • Fridays:
    • Club opens: 4:00 PM
    • Meals available: 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM
  • Saturdays:
    • Club is CLOSED except for private hire or scheduled test matches. (Bar licensed from 12:00 PM (noon) - 12:00 AM (midnight) for these events).
  • Sundays:
    • Coffee & Breakfast: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM (noon)
    • Bar: 12:00 PM (noon) - 10:00 PM
